Quick Update

It’s been almost 2 months since I posted on Sharkfin Gaming but that will change in 2019- I plan to make at least 2 posts per week.

Honestly, this year has really gotten me back into gaming- something I did not stop when I was much- MUCH younger! Not only did I decided to focus 2018 on doing things that made me happy but the gaming industry decided to step up and hit me with a shit ton of games that I love!

So many games…so little time!

I’m not your typical gamer- I’m an old man that sucks at games- but that is the main point of Sharkfin Gaming- the love of gaming! It doesn’t matter how bad you suck at something, if you love doing it and it brings you joy- do it! Ignore all the trolls on the internet and the fact that your “in game shot” is comparable to a storm trooper.

Black Friday

Tomorrow is Black Friday!!!!

Well, Black OPS Friday! Black Ops 4 comes out and I will be playing it most of tomorrow evening and Saturday. I am notoriously terrible at Call of Duty games so it’s going to be a fun time. I plan on posting pics, reviews, thoughts and opinions as well as going live on Twitch throughout the weekend so feel free to come and laugh at me. You don’t have to be good at games to love them and Call of Duty is probably my favorite series of all time!

It’s going to be LIT…as the children say.

Probably not- probably just an older fat guy dying over and over in a game he loves.

That’s entertainment.

Love, Peace and Sharkyness

Broken Tradition

Back in 2009, my mom started a tradition and I’m not 100% sure why it was started but she was trying to find me something for Christmas and I just told her to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for me because I had never played a Call of Duty game before…I hadn’t just gotten an Xbox 360 and it was hyped up and there wasn’t much else I wanted.

I know what you are thinking- “MW2 came out in November of 2009” and that is correct- as an only child of a single mother, I was pretty spoiled and that didn’t really change as I grew up…I was 31 at the time.

I always got my Christmas present in November because I’m not patient and she would eventually give in- it started when I was a kid and last all the way up until last year...

Why Gaming?

There are several answers to that question.

I’ve focused 2018 on being overall happier and that has included things like losing 127 lbs, learning how to weight lift, writing more and getting more into gaming. I’ve had a gaming system pretty much since the original NES and I’ve always loved playing video games but I’ve also always been really bad at it but that didn’t matter as much as it seems to matter these days and I’m not a fan of it.

I would also consider myself to be an old timer but I don’t want to stop learning new technology like new websites coming up, streaming, making videos, etc. Like it or not, there is room in gaming for us older folks and there is room in gaming for us folks that really suck at it but enjoy it.

Gaming should be for everyone and I think we have...

Xbox, Playstation…or Switch – Which is better?

South Park had an amazing episode back in 2013 that discussed this issue perfectly but I still keep seeing all of the BS on the net about which is better…and why.

It doesn’t really matter which is best- let’s be honest. I can go into detail about the power behind each console and the reasons you should and shouldn’t go with one or the other but that is pointless.

We can all agree that the Switch comes in 3rd but even that isn’t a given because it all depends on the gamer and what they are into (and with the new Nintendo Online giving us old timers the games we loved, it may be headed towards the top!)

I grew up with NES and moved on to Super NES and then Nintendo 64 before I moved on to Playstation 1 and then Playstation 2...

I’m Bad At Games

I’ve been on Twitch for a while now because I like watching Boogie2988 and a small handful of others but I’ve always enjoyed watching Twitch streams on YouTube- I’ve learned a lot about Fortnite, Overwatch and other games and I love watching Pew Dew Pie do play through’s of games. Last night though, I decided to become a Twitcher (without the meth).

I updated my Twitch channel a bit and played around with the broadcasting options on my Xbox One. I haven’t built up the courage yet to throw on the mic or camera but I think I will eventually get there because there are tons of folks at there that can show you how to become better at games but there are only a select few who can show you just how good you already are….by showing you how bad I can be.

I do understand that I must hav...

Not That Happy

We Happy Few is a new game that came out a couple days ago so I picked up a copy from the Redbox to try it out. The images they have released as far as the advertising has really caught my eye and based on the trailer it has a Clockwork Orange type of feel to it so I’m really looking forward to it.

The game is in first person, as is most games these days and is set in the 1960s- following an alternative World War II. You are trying to get out of the fictional city of Wellington Wells, which is a dystopia type place where everyone is jacked up on a hallucinogenic drug called “joy”.

I played it for a few hours Friday night and then again on Saturday before taking it back and I decided that I may buy it when the price goes down to $20 or even cheaper- it’s just not a game I will reall...

Never Grow Up

Here is a fact- I am the single worst Call of Duty player to ever pick up a controller but that hasn’t changed my love for the game. (honestly, I suck at most games.)

The first COD game I ever played was Modern Warfare 2 and I loved it…not sure why I picked it up to begin with, could have been the hype that pushed me to try it out; however, I have ALL COD games that came out after that point.

Each year my mom would ask me what I wanted for Christmas (yes, I was in my 30s at the time!) and since the new one always comes out in November it basically become a tradition that mom would get the newest one or me as my present or just give me the cash to buy it (or reimburse me if I had already gotten it.)

It would never fail that I would hear the same words…...

What I’ll Be Buying

Too many damn good games are coming out and it’s going to break me! Here is what I’m hoping to pick up during the rest of 2018.

NINTENDO SWITCH

Lego DC Super Villains – October 16th
-I think I’m going to pick this up on Switch because it’s a Lego game and the graphics aren’t as important as just the overall fun of it and I think it may be a game that my 11 year old may get interested in and who DOESN’T prefer to be the villain????

Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu – November 16th
-This is obvious a no brainer! I’m a huge Pokemon fan and Pikachu is a million times better than Eevee…I’m hoping to pick up the combo that comes with the Pokeball…plus the fact that this stuff interacts with Pokemon Go makes it a must have.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate – December 7th
-Honestly, I’ve never played a Smash B...

Alice Madness Returns

Sometimes I like to go through my old Xbox 360 games and see what they have added backwards compatibility and install those games on my Xbox One…this brought me back to Wonderland.

I remember when I first picked up this game, I played it for several hours and didn’t want to stop and that came right back the moment I started playing it the other night….the graphics are cool and it’s easy enough for an idiot like myself. It’s really easy to pick up and just jump right in and just feels different than most games out right now. I would highly recommend it to an average player who just wants to discover new areas and follow a story without really dying every few minutes.
